Friends got a 1999 Dakota Sport v6 five speed that has a rear end noise(whine ,growl) .Did a little research on the internet and it looks like this is a problem with the 99-2000 Dakotas.Anyone have any experience with cause ,fix on these things? Thanks

Usually its the front pinion bearing going bad.

Also known for the left carier bearing adjuster lock breaking and allowing the adjuster to back off and open up the backlash big time.
happens alot on 8 1/4 and 9 1/4 rears.

Pinion and carrier bearings and be sure to look at the ring gear. Sometimes that rear will develop a wear pattern on the ring gear that looks like you went at it with an engraver/dremel tool. If you see it replace the ring & pinion at same time.
