Jack, tell me if I'm wrong but the pictures look like an 8.1 not a 502. The 8.1 is a much more hi tech piece with the "LS" style of cylinder head. Just my observation. Tommy

Tommy---According to General Motors this unit is a "Big Block Vortec 8100 V8 Engine"---sounds like a 502 to me. Just thought I'd clear this up...........

It is a 496. The "502" is a conventional headed big block with a distributor 1 coil and many choices for induction. The 8.1 is a "Real Big" LS1 coil on plug ignition, port fuel injected a real state of the art piece!

Tommy--------Tommy--------Tommy-- If I told my wife that I had an extra 6 inches she might care but anyone else--I don't think so. You're right --its bigger and newer style but no one bought it either way. 502 or 496 its all about the fact that size matters --or does it?
