You might consider talking to some of the guys that run these cars and get some feedback before you make up your mind about who to go to get your engine from.

Do tell Afret.. Who builds Calverts motors? Just wondering since they tend to work well and not have a lot of issues.

Dave,,, good luck with your upcoming project. Don't forget,,, there is a "Class Racer Builds" section,, so make sure to post pictures and take us along for the ride, during your build, as we all enjoy watching these racecars come to life,,,, especially a Thunderbolt!
Take care.

Dave,
Jim is right. If its not a post car its not a 'Bolt. If that's the case the only option you have in Stock is the 260 or 289 versions. In SS you can make it a GT car and run whatever you want to as far as the engine goes. But the only natural SS combo would be the small blocks. If you are dead set on building a FE for it, it would be a GT combo only unless its a post car.

Either way you need to know what your end game is. Do you want to win class at Indy or just be able to run the index and run the eliminator. The other thing is budget. If you do have a post car and you are wanting to make it a top contender in SS/B. You should budget very close to 100K in my opinion as a ballpark number and you could cut that in half for a Stocker. Just my .02

Was it not Charlie Wescott power that got Ray Paquets car running so well? If so, go see CW. The other fast car has a BES motor from Mr. Bischoff if I'm not mistaken. If this is the case, I'm not sure why neither of these builders were mentioned.

I think there is no doubt that CW has proven himself with the Hemi's. However, I don't believe Ray is running a motor from CW. I think CW is helping him with some stuff like the cam, transmission and clutch but I don't think he's built a S/SS FE motor to my knowledge. Now yes BES has proven they can build a competitive FE motor as well as Blair Patrick.

ray is assembling his own engines as of now. he and charlie are working on stuff for new engine. the one in car at present is the engine that he was running.they did do some valve train work and some work on heads. i redid chassis and ray ran very few passes before resetting record. should be pretty fast when new engine is in and some more passes to get chassis worked out better. Hi Dale. Don't know who. But with what a top of the line high riser engine costs, it sure won't hurt to get as much info as possible before jumping in head first.
Even a low buck slow CJ engine thrown together at home ends up costing a lot. A lot for me anyway on a military pension.

Will be nice to see another T-bolt in Stock or SS.
