thanks again, guys.
Dion... nobody has ever asked that ? ! Leading up to it, was so stressful, that I was actually having chest pains ! When the Edelbrock Performer put 35 HP on the stock intake ? The stress really set it ! HOW the heck could a manifold change do more than that ? First pull with my intake, had a "glitch" / stumble. More stress. Second pull... 465 torque, 462 HP Disbelief ! Because I was still in a postion to finalize the carburetor height of the casting, we tried a couple different spacers. 1" open, then a 2" phenolic 4 hole. 1" did nothing. 2" made a few more HP, but gave up mid range torque. Relieved Seemed that just as cast, was best scenario ( I'm not that good.... just got lucky ! ) So, cooled the engine down a bit, and did a last pull a couple hundred RPM higher. 466.6 ft lb torque @ 4200 465.8 HP @ 5800 Still a little disbelief. Quite frankly, the A/F ratio numbers are so steady, I'm uncomfortable even posting them. Doesn't look real. To me, I think the angle of approach to these goofy, almost horizontal intake ports in the heads, can be looked after, ONLY with a single plane manifold that accomodates them. That, I believe, is why it worked. Hopefully, this helps level the playing field for guys with these engines, using small port heads. A modest, hot-street build, should be able to make 500 HP. Comparable to a similar built oval port BBC. That has never been able to happen before.

Aubrey, that is really cool.
Having raced orphen engines myself ,I have a special appreciation for someone who goes to these lengths to race their combo. Congratulations!

Take what Goldman says with a grain of salt, he's a little weird. Couldn't resist!

That's cool as heck! But how did it compare to the Edelbrock intake?

Jeff... You didn't watch the video ? !
Here are the basic numbers: Stock intake ( dotted line ..... ) torque 438.5 @ 3500 RPM horsepower 389.9 @ 5400 RPM ( 387.7 @ 5300, 387.6 @ 5500, 385.6 @ 5600, 383.4 @ 5700 ) Performer RPM intake ( broken line _ _ _ _ _ ) torque 448.7 @ 4200 RPM horsepower 424.8 @ 5700 RPM ( 422.9 @ 5500, 424.3 @ 5600, 424.5 @ 5800, 423.9 @ 5900, 423.0 @ 6000, 421.8 @ 6100 ) Speed-Port 6000 intake ( solid line _______ ) torque 466.6 @ 4200 RPM horsepower 465.8 @ 5800 RPM ( 464.8 @ 5600, 465.4 @ 5700, 465.7 5900, 465.7 @ 6000, 464.9 @ 6100, 464.4 @ 6200, 464.0 @ 6300 ) My sinlge plane intake held an AVERAGE HP of 412.... 37 AVERAGE HP more than Edelbrock. Torque was an AVERAGE of about 18 ft lb more. The amazing thing was 76 horsepower more than a stock intake. Holy $&#%, is the stock intake a piece of crap ! http://www.speed-port.ca/images/2964...81079af6b7.jpg

No, didn't watch the video. That aside, that's pretty dang impressive! About now I'll bet Edelbrock is saying they should make one so sell as many as you can and recoup your investment. And I'm really curious about that, how much $ do you have invested (aside from probably countless hours)?
I was looking at adapting a SBC or Mopar B Victor type intake to my AMC when I was pursuing Super Stock. I don't see that happening. I spoke to Edelbrock and I was left with the impression they would build one but that's been two years now so I guess they don't have a real interest in the project. Now that you have a killer intake, turn that 409 into a SS!
