In the underhood fuse box there is a place for a 40 amp j-fuse , it is labled stud 1. There should be a red plastic thing stuck in that position. Pull out the plastic and install a 40 amp fuse and you should have 12 volts on the red wire.

Ken,
Fuse should be on the top left of the fuse box under the hood. As Jerry said, it comes with a red dummy fuse in it. You have to remove that, put a fuse in, and you should be good to go.
