I believe that instead of calling RJ an "Old Meathead", you should consider it as a fact that at his age, he might had a "Freudian Slip"

...and he forgot to read the memo sent to him to remember to adjust the throttle stop...

...it happens to Mr. Teuton once in a while and the reason why he keeps a cooler with the appropriate beverages required to maintain a healthy brain and memory!
