Apparently Jack did not receive anything official from NHRA nor was anything published by NHRA indicating the notches were not allowed. This forum is full of pages about "something that NHRA will make official", but never pans out to full official status. To say Jack was informed, is incorrect. He was given notice and that, as always, is subject to change upon official notification. What if Jack replaced his bumper cover and had it painted to satisfy a rumored change then two weeks later NHRA decides wheelie bar notches isn't such a bad idea after all? I believe Jack handled the situation correctly. Now that he has "official" notification, I'm sure the dealership has the parts he needs to make NHRA happy. P.S. Looks like Jack and I were writing our responses at the same time...

Ok here's my dumb question and it's not to be funny, it's seriously because I don't know - why don't these factory powerhouse race cars come with wheelie bars and proper valances to accompany them? I understand that no factory driver comes with wheelie bars but these are factory race cars. At least make a bumper to accompany wheelie bar add-on and then no cutting, notching, etc. is required.

Both could not hurt. Then, no questions.

What do you mean made the necessary repairs and then ran two more races? So after the phone call you fixed the car, ran two races, and then they told you that wasn't good enough? Or you fixed it, they still sent the letter because they assumed that you hadn't? I'm confused.
This is coming from someone who bracket races all the time, and would love to convert my street driven Trans Am into a stocker, that's why I'm curious. I can't imagine wanting to spend the money you guys spend and then get treated like you do. However, it sounds like to me this is a petty gripe. From what I've read, one of two things happened. Jack was told to fix it and didn't, slid by two races so he assumed he could keep sliding by, then got caught. Or he was told to fix it, did in fact fix it, but just wanted to come on here and gripe about the letter he felt like was a few weeks late. No disrespect at all. I hardly ever post here, just lurk, but I just feel like the entire story hasn't been explained in a single post yet. I just reread some of your posts. Maybe I misread them? Maybe you fixed it and it still wasn't to their liking? I'm just trying to get a clear story as moving from brackets to class racing was looking appealing. Just unsure of how you got a call weeks ago, did some type of repair, but then act like you had no clue this was coming? Last edited by Hustler1098; 06-13-2013 at 04:22 PM. |

He said he was cleared for Maple Grove and Englishtown. I take that to mean what it says. He was cleared for 2 races. I agree with what other people are saying. If they are going to allow wheelie bars, they should allow enough clearance for them. |

Ah heck just put the cut out pieces back in the valance with a hinge on the inside, ala funny car tail lights. Everyone is happy.
