Default Travis: Stock Class Crossmember Rule Interpretation

This one is for Travis or any one who knows:
In the rule book, Section 5A - Stock Cars, Oil Pan, a paragraph in the section reads as follows:
Quote:
"...Crossmember may be altered for oil pan removal. If altered, all material and strength must be replaced by boxing or installing removable or permanent material"
Has any one done this type of modification to their cars?

In Division 7 Joel Larkin has done this to his first generation Firebird.

Joel removed the crossmember under his engine so he could pull his pan without removing the engine. He sliced out a section and then flanged everything so it could be bolted together.

I don't think a tubular crossmember would work in stock and probably not in super stock..
Ed Quay has a nice piece that I know is legal in super stock and I think is OK in stock.
It is a modified factory piece and is not that expensive. If you send them your core it will
reduce the price. edquay.com

Tommy,
Ya' need to stop getting all worked up over stupid issues !! The rules say it can be done, IF YOU WANT TOO !! ( Our old buddy, Skelly, got it done) I did it during the past winter so I can pull my pan anytime I WANT and it's not a bad deal. You'll never know, when at a track, a problem can bite ya. I still have the templates for the boxing if you need 'em. ( for a 4th. gen) CM tube across the cut out piece and it bolts in. When I did it, nothing moved !!!!!!!!!!

Bob, based on Bernie's comment, the modification shown in your pictures may be acceptable...with the exception of the rack & pinion.
