Sorry I haven't posted lately, but we cooked hamburgers and have been having a great evening tonight with great friends. Jack and Carol Zimmerman, Jim and Pam Marshall, our friend from high school Linda and her friend Joyce, and even Charlie Downing (our first round opponent in the morning) had a great meal tonight and then have been bench racing. And we just closed out the night with some great fireworks! They were right over Bo and Randi Lyn's pits. They put on a great show! I took a few pics today that I will get posted tomorrow. 1st round will come early in the morning. More later.

Well Charlie Bob beat us this morning. Larry had the better light, but in a "Senior Moment" left in 2nd gear and ran two tenths off his dial! Oh well, there's always next race! Jim Marshall lost with perfect light. Sterling Simmons won the Perfectly Strange Award this morning. We will be here for a while still until someone around us leaves. So more later!

For a little comment on the race in general--
The schedule seem to work out pretty well. Stock, super comp, super stock, super gas, top sportsmen. Everyone knew who they ran after and things seem to run smoothly. I think with top sportsmen running with the rest of the sportsmen and not having a specified time to run kept things in order very well. I hope NHRA took notes and will continue this even when comp and top dragster are added to the program. The run order helped to keep rubber on the track, but the starting line crew needs to still be aware when bald spots are appearing and stop and take care of the track. Before the second round of class, nothing was done to the track and it was a toss-up if you hooked or not. I would say that several did not. At one point Graham Light was down on the track inspecting it during eliminations and was seen in staging during time trials asking the racers how things were going in general. Hopefully the track will be looked at and the right things done more often to keep the track good ALL the time. Patsy |
