Island Drag-way is terrific historical track.
Been there many times and a beautiful peaceful ride. My Avatar shows my Impala SS launching off the starting line last year. Sure hope what they want to do works. Speaking for myself Island Drag-way seemed to treat everyone well. The loved our ECIRS Club racing. Always helped accommodate us to run a second make up race. In fact our ISSCA Nationals Drag Race was held there. Where more than a 100 B-Bodies competed. It does need a good cleaning and sprucing up. Sure wish the burnout box was about 20 feet longer. And I wish they could buy out the guy at the end and extend the shutdown distance. I was there last year and snoozed a bit after crossing the finish and almost ended up in that guys garage. My fault but Numida or Cecil County give you miles to slow down. Island is tight.

Agreed..not a place to run todays' 8(soon 7 ? ) sec. CJ "stockers"...heads up. I ran a 10 sec 130 mph Camaro with drum brakes( '79) and ..made the last turn almost as fast. Last edited by RJDUDEK; 06-21-2013 at 11:19 PM. |

I ain't no island cheerleader but some of these statements are nothing but nonsense. I ran my Firebird that that I slow to run 9.0x, every week during the 2009 and 2010 season and I had no problem stopping from 149 MPH. Prior to it, I ran my low 10 second Chevelle there for decades which had factory single piston disc brakes upfront and drum brakes in the rear and I had no problem stopping this nearly 2 ton ride from as fast as 135 MPH.
Oh, and the guy at the end of the track ain't ever going to sell to them even if they had the $. Last edited by 1320racer; 06-15-2013 at 12:37 AM. |

they are not under new management!
a demarky is the new manager, a demarky was the previous manager and a demarky is the owner and landlord. THAT is the TRUTH and the FACTS! Last edited by 1320racer; 06-22-2013 at 12:26 AM. |
