How about we take a break from the Island bashing and wait to see how this weekend goes. I've personally have never been there but, one of my best buds grew up at the track and was pretty heartbroken when the track was closed last year. For him it was a quick drive from PA over to NJ and he did a lot of testing & racing there. Rather the place is great or the place is a dump it's still "someones home". We should all be glad another track is open in NJ. It gives racers another place to race and get kids off the street. I would feel the same way if someone said stuff about Atco which is where I was brought up and spent my summers as a kid. If Island falls on it's face then for some of us on here we can say "I told you so" or if it's a success and they do great then some of us can say "woo hoo." Let's not start the Bus up before they even get up and running at least let them get a weekend of racing in and give them a chance.
For the people who have been to Numidia, we know the place is great, Bob and his Family are great and so are the people who come out and support the track. The food is some of the best ever at a racetrack. I love it and it's one of my Top 3 tracks. I wish the track wasn't 4.5 hours away for me and I'd be up there every week but, I make it up there twice a year to support it because I know how much heart and soul Bob has put into the track to make it where it is today. Just wish we could get a divisional back there again but, we have the next best thing with the 90 Nationals and Stk/SS Shootout in September. On Monday we can all go back to our keyboards and discuss how great or horrible the weekend was at the track. |

Racers didn't quit, test/tuners quit. The racers left and went to ETown long before they closed.

West Hampton was almost all bracket racers not T/T, I raced there from 71 till 88 when I moved to NH, how many years did you race there. Do you know what it cost and the time it takes to go from Suffolk County to E Town for a Sunday bracket race, the many Hampton bracket racers that I know who quit do, TOO MUCH.

I can't speak for James because he now mostly races Stock Eliminator as opposed to a weekly brackets points program. As for West Hampton, it was mostly bracket racers, not as much test & tune. I started racing exclusively at Atco, Etown and Island beginning in 2001. At that time, I was still living on Long Island and West Hampton was still open. When it closed, only a few started racing in NJ like I did; I was in the minority. Most quit racing either completely; a few continued racing only occasionally.
