I stopped into a State Police post about 4 years ago, to ask about towing regulations. The officer really didn't know and did not have any information. At that time I tried looking at the Michigan Secretary of State website and couldn't find anything easily. I guess it's time to look again.

I have not heard about local officers doing it. But there is a Motor Carrier Enforcement officer that has been doing it for a long time now. His name is Barry Archer and he was working out of the Adrian MI office. He may have moved to a different location now. I know if he gets you there is no point in trying to talk to him about it. Just take your ticket, move on (if he does not tow your rig) and decide if you want to try to fight it.

Here's the posted regulation from the State of Michigan

http://www.michigan.gov/documents/Loads_dim_87014_7.pdf

Length of a combination of truck-tractor, semitrailer, and trailer or truck-tractor and 2 semitrailers or truck and semitrailer or trailer with or without load or pickup truck, semitrailer designed for recreational living purposes, and additional trailer or semitrailer (see exceptions) 65 feet

Interesting that you can tow a recreational (living quarters) trailer AND an additional trailer with a fifth-wheel equipped pick-up truck and be 75 feet in length with a special endorsement on your license.

Hope this helps!

I have only heard of 1 ticket .....a couple of years ago....I've never been bothered....

But it's possible in many states if you run into the wrong guy....definitely keep it under 65 mph....

Rock..
