Kevin, I think you aced it by saying the FORMAT is dying. Nhra kept on loosening the rules until sportsman racing now has swallowed the poisen pill. They have priced themselves out of their future. Not for nothing but the new generation is trying to figure out how to pay loans on their college education in an economy that has very little to offer. Children moving back home because they can't make it on their own with the jobs that out there. No jobs, no benefits , no retirement plans, no medical plans. The price of a family medical plan keeps going up as Obamacare looms. Do you really think they are concerned about drag racing ! Go to a Division 1 points meet and you would think the economy is thriving. Most of racers are people who are successful business owners or people who made their money during the good years. Weekend meets that start on Thursday and might finish on Sunday--weather permitting. Some people might have to go to work. Sportsman racing is not geared towards the weekend warrior and that's why bracket racing has its draw and those people are content with that and will never cross the line to S/SS. Even if you have the money you may not have the time. It is what it is !!!!

I don't know if it's dying, but it sure needs to see a doctor and be evaluated.

I am going to put up a "series of articles" in our magazine. ETDragRacing about "can we fix drag racing" and are we ready for the changes.
I hope you get a chance to look the ideas over and maybe let your local track owner read the article as well. The primary changes will START at the track. Jok |
