I'm just curious as to why no one runs a sheet metal intake on 327 or 350 Super Stockers. I know its hard to beat the cast ones on the single four barrel deals but surely somebody has the resources to make it work.

I had several sheet metal intakes made for my GT/TA 1970 350 LT1 powered S-10 truck....the thing was way fast in the end! The friend I sold the truck to still runs it! Hogan was the only intake that worked { I spent a lot for pretty looking door stops}. I had originally tried to make it run with a Q-Jet combo but it just hated it, and finally switched to the Holley combo. The smaller plenum was the ticket, most combo's don't have enough motor to hood clearance.....55-57 Chevy's and S-10's are the only combo's that I know of having the space!

Wilson manifolds took one of our aluminum intakes and completely reworked the runners and raised the plenum slightly. I guess you could say they did some proprietary work, research, flowing, etc on the intake before we got it back. You could tell that there was some work and that it was not your run-of-the-mill Victor Junior. We were still able to fit the q jet under the hood without problems. I am not sure what the "model number" is to it after they redid it. We sold the motors several years ago and gave the intake to Dave Layer. Dan Jacobs now has it on his flying Chevy II.
It looked promising on the numbers and all. We didn't have the time to do A B A testing. This was on our SS/IA Camaro. This all occurred when professional and family obligations trumped racing. FWIW |

Not having had a sheetmetal intake, I'll just say I believe the worst factor is harmonics and every effort should be made to control them.
Likewise, I would think if I had a SBC I would sure give that AFR Titan composite intake a good try. Anybody try it?

We ran one of the Titan intakes on a 421 SB Chevy bracket engine we did. It ran pretty good but nothing to do cart wheels over.

Anybody know how the AFR intake compares to, say a, Victor, Victor Jr. or Bow-Tie intake? Isn't it odd I'm asking about Chevies?

I also tried the plastic intakes....both styles. Dyno'd the heck out of it! Spent the money to fill and profile the ports to match the heads. What did we find.......well not much, it was within 4hp lower of course. Tom Nolan.
