Ron, no I haven't weighed this one yet. My '89 Notch with an aluminum head 347,c6 and with full interior and most street equipment, but with a fuel cell, weighs 2950 with a 200# driver. The 4 banger hatch has about the same equipment in it as yours except it has a sunroof. I've found all the c4 stuff for the car, but the a4ld isn't a bad trans. Maybe Yacavone could do a converter for one of these. Little history lesson on the a4ld. It was created from the c3, bad you say, became the a4ld with one od unit tagged on front, then it got put behind the 4.0 in explores and got a whole lot of hd parts and roller bearings/thrust washers still junk you say. Guess whats in the '05 and up mustangs? The next generation a4ld or whatever alphabet they're hiding the c3 under with one more od unit to make the 5 speed. At less than 100 horse power I don't think you can get a hatch back light enough, but it would be fun to try.
BTW the explorer trans is an electronic version and Bauman makes a controller to shift it I believe.

Larry,
Do you think the A4LD will stand up behind a 2.3L turbo stocker motor? The C4 2.3l bellhousing has been the hardest thing for me to find on all three of my 2.3l turbo cars. I know the one car I have with NA motor has 230k on original A4ld so they can't be entirely bad. Car has been bracket raced a few times without fail until flexplate failed and I parked the car for a rest and update.

Ron, Try these sites you will have to cut and paste though;
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...AutoTrans.html
http://www.transmissioncenter.org/a4ld.htm
Transmission center says they have one behind a blown 4.0L in a ranger looks like it may hold up to a turbo 2.3. should be no problem behind a 2.3. They do look a little pricey to build in comparison to a C4 and of course torque converters may be an issue, but the c3 had a 9" converter and since this is a c3 sister it may be possible.
