I'm not sure why it's "officially" approved as you've been able to use any replacement that has OEM specifications (throttle blade / bore diameter, venturi diameter, etc.) for a few years now. It may be a better carb off the shelf for those that don't have the skills to tune an older OEM unit and it's probably better in that I can call Summit or Jegs and not have to find one on Hemmings.com. I assume this carb does in fact meet the OEM specs? Can't see any difference here from the Edelbrock Q-Jets the GM racers have had for years.

The point is that YOU CAN buy NEW Q-jets Holleys or QFT Holley replacements and now AFB'S and AVS Jimmy Carters
YOU ME and Randall CAN'T buy new Autolite 4100,4300, or Rottenchester 4GC carbs and are stuck working with 50+ YEAR OLD castings not the least of which core prices are going insane I used to buy non frozen Autolites for $10-$50 TOPS! Now I'm paying upwards to $300 for a decent one and good 4GC's and WCFB's are bringing the same or more even.

Edelbrock discontinued the Qjet. No more new ones, whatever is left out there.

Over $4k wrapped in crusty WCFBs not incl Hedworth magic and we see newer stuff getting help. Frankly I find it more rewarding to make real OEM go fast

Randall I think you need some Edelbrock heads approved. Newer cars than yours get aluminium Edelbrock heads with only a 10 or so hp penalty.
