When the rule change out before Christmas I called John at Bullet to inquire about a new cam. I didn't order it at the time but he told me that 5 guys had called that week to have new ones ground. I feel bad for those guys as I'm guessing there is no refund on those.

IHRA should have thought this one out a little longer and asked for some input.

Also, I have a hard time believing that many cams are illegal. Look at the times for the PS cars. They aren't going fast enough to have bogus cams.

Where is NHRA showing spring specs for pressure, and duration and overlap specs for cam?

The old classification guides have them and still available.
Iam helping others get the new cars data added.
Not going to be easy but it will get done.

As for cams the cam builders are being smart.

New Cars and New Cams.
Have an idea.
Somehow get a list of these new cams.
See if the Factories will send the Cam Specs or a Cam to be measured.
Contract that effort out to a Cam shop to measure and document.
Send the Data to IHRA.

Dan,
specs have to be oem supplied is what I always have been told, and I don't know if you will get any of them to supply specs if it does help them a car.

Has NHRA showed specs for duration/over and spring pressure for anything built after 1986 ?

Think so...all the LSx, LT1s Cams are available.

But that is a good question.
Need to create an updated Library of Cams for the Tech Department.
How can we help get them that information?

Here you go guys and gals, direct from the IHRA website

2013 IHRA Rulebook Revisions and Clarifications
12/30/13
p. 48 Pure Stock: Camshaft: replace 12/10/13 revision with the following: Camshaft must retain OEM lift, duration and overlap for horsepower claimed as verified by manufacturer supplied specifications. Aftermarket camshafts meeting specifications permitted. If complete engine package has not been supplied by manufacturer, the combination may not be classified for competition in Pure Stock.

Appears some of you (new car owners) have some work to do writing and contacting OEM reps to release the complete camshaft information to the HRA's.

Just trying to help, Good Luck

I know more than the average guy regarding class racing, definitely not as much as most of you, but I don't understand how all of this will work and see many problems. Our cam is a perfect example.

When I decided to try our hand in Pure Stock our Corvette wasn't legal in IHRA because they didn't have camshaft information. I contacted Mike Baker and got what he needed from Mark Kent at GM. He provided me with GM specs for the 2004 LS1 camshaft. I sent those to Bullet and John ground us a legal Pure Stock cam. Here is the card:

You'll notice the lift is 466/478. However, I did more research AFTER we installed the cam and if you go to NHRA's website and look at the Engine Blueprint Specification sheet for our particular application the cam lift is listed at 515/515.

So, which number is correct? Where did Mark Kent (someone who is in the know at GM) come up with 466/478 and where did NHRA come up with 515/515? And if GM was wrong do I have the incorrect duration also?

Very frustrating.
