Default Re: Six cylinder Super Stockers???

Yeah, how exciting would Stock or S/S be if there was nothing but 69 Camaros with 350s in them at the track?

The Pontiac Sprint motors - OHC inline 6's, were offered 4 years. 66-67 were 230 cube and 68-69 were 250 cube. Came with quadrajet and cast iron dual header. Heavy motors! Were only in Tempest and Firebirds.
The motors would really run well and rev... But parts are about impossible to find now. No one really cared about a little OHC 6 back in the 60's, with the 389 - 400 - 455 offerings. I would love to see one of these in stock or ss, but you would have to custom build about everything I would think. Several people that knew the cars back then, including a couple that personally had them, told me the OHC 6 cars would outrun the 326 cars easily back then. Was a few years before my time for first hand experience.

My 67 Firebird Convertible was an original Sprint car, and I have the OHC motor and 3 speed in the shed. Actually ran this motor on the street for a while when I first got my car together. Was afraid of blowing it up, and pulled it out for a sbc. I took it to a few shows, including a big Pontiac show in Kansas City after putting it together, and got lot of attention, as not many Sprint 6's out there. Especially in a 67 Firebird convertible. I found the car in a field in KS with sunflowers hiding most of it back in 1986. Was in highschool and it took me two years of part time jobs to get it running and painted. Could still find them pretty regular back then.

I have a 400 motor with heads and intake for the 1 year only 67 build... now just need the time and money and... good stocker combo.
Will just keep racing it with the IHRA crate motor set up for now. (unless someone has a spare 400 lol )
