I hope whoever bought it puts it to use, I sure would if I had the money. I doubt you could build one like it for that price. John Kissel

Don't know who bought it, but I hope it will be preserved (and used) just like it sits now. A piece of race car history that I thought sure would bring well past $100,000. With all the cars that brought north of that figure (about 30 or so) I was surprised that it went for $90,000. I remember all the articles about the car, including how to do lace painting on a car.

Lots of history with that one...too bad they didn't start with a Hemi but guess that was contrary to the premise they started with. Tonight's auction of the "Old Reliable" Dave Strickler Z28 will be interesting. Anyone hazard a guess on that one? I'm thinking ~225K but who knows with the games they play and guarantee it will be a "long" gavel.

Trust me Mack, it was my guess. Really thought it was going to air tonight, I'm recording it all and will zip through the whole thing in an hour, I only slow it down for the really interesting stuff, and April of course.
Assuming the whole Mongoose/Snake hauler/racecar extravaganza hasn't crossed the block yet I would probably guess 1.3 Million on that lot. Will probably show what a lousy guesser I am but if it comes in less I'll just blame it on the poor box office for the movie last summer.

No hijack intended, but this was my Uncle's car...it sold at Scottsdale as well. I spend many years out in the garage sitting in that tiny seat dreaming.

Jim, if you have it taped I won't spoil it for you... But there are some things that make you go "Hummmmm"..... I have watched it all day... In some ways it looks like the car market is somewhat back but, others say not.... Mixed signals for sure......

Many years ago when Ted Struse moved to Colorado he introduced himself to me and eventually I ended up helping him with the altitude tuning of Project Six-Pack. I am not sure I really helped a lot because I was still learning back then. Ted was great to work with and I was honored that he did a SS & DI article on my 6-pack car in '85 or '86. Later he changed Project Six Pack to an ET car and went with a big bracket motor, big tires and all. To the best of my knowledge the first time it sold @ B-J Scottsdale it had been returned it's original vintage condition. It appeared to still be in that condition.
Sadly Ted was stricken with Parkinsons disease and the last I heard from him was a few years ago and he was working on a '63 dodge ET car. True to form Ted had big plans for it and was determined to not let disease interfere. I have not been in touch with Ted since and I hope he is doing well. It is a great car with terrific history. I am glad it was returned to the original condition and I hope it stays that way. No doubt - that is the best way for it to retain it's value. Bill Ringer |
