Cool Re: Lower Octane Fuel

We have a couple of '68 Chevelles with the 327/250-245 horse engine. that engine, even after decking the block and the heads and arriving at a comfortable chamber size, is an actual 8.5 c/r. It runs fine on 91 octane 76 union right from the pump. No real difference in Et or MPH is obvious from C-12. It probably shouldn't do this according to conventional wisdom, but Tony Janes did this when bracket racing the car. I always hunted down C-12 when I went out, but there's apparantly no need for 108 octane fuel in an 8:1 engine. Problem is, the 76 wouldn't pass fuel check, so when Pomona comes, out it goes and the good stuff has to go in. I don't think we would try this with the 275 horse engine.

My car @ 9.1 CR is .05 faster on Arco 91 pump gas then on the legal fuels VP C10 or Rockett 111. I believe that well over half of the stockers would run just fine on pump gas at $4.00 a gallon instead of the rip off prices we are forced to swallow for the $13.00 and up per gallon fuel on the "accepted" list. But I guess thats politics...............

VP C-9 is 97 octane Unleaded with NO Oxygenates.
As close as you can get to pump gas with NHRA approved fuel from VP.
It is cheaper (around $65 with the can) is all gasoline not as caustic as other VP Fuels.

Keep in mind it is unleaded, if using older heads without hardened valve seats you will have issues.

I use C-9 all the time. My car likes it better than the rest of VP's fuel. I have had my fastest pass with it. Just have to tune it a little. BP

Interesting article on running the the right octane fuel by Dan Dvorak.
Go to.........Dvorak Machine / Tech / tech articles/ what about fuel. This article is far from new but only reinforces what is being spoken about today.

Tried VP 100 unleaded while bracket racing . Car does not like it at all . Best bet is find the pump gas that your combo likes. Can't run anything but from the pump in pure stock anyhow

Arrow Re: Lower Octane Fuel

who's Parker and what kind of frying pan is he using and what is he cooking in it.
now on fuel I was on the dyno this week and here is the test results. I made 8 pulls on union 76 pre. and got a good base line and then I went over to c-11 much to my surprise their was no gain over the pump gas or loss. so put that in your parker pan and smoke it!!!!!!!!!!!! dyno test 69 chev 255/280 9.0cr engine.
