I felt bad for Rod as he's a innovator but unfortunately there was never a following or demand for a six second car and he knew he was going to take a loss. Now Barrett-Jackson is a scripted entertainment and should be looked at it in the same as all pick a boo shows out there, it's voyeurism at it's best " look ma rich people are stupid too " but unfortunately some people think that their junk is now worth $2.5 million(look at the crazy guy trying to sell Bill Jenkins first 3rd Generation Camaro that Joe Lepone drove) I was looking at buying a worn out 85 Camaro for my nephew and the guy told me it was worth at the very least $20k because he saw on B$J a similar car for that much, I didn't argue and told him good luck. Mind you all these cars will be preserved for the next generation to enjoy.

Rod lives about a half hour from me. He has always had the means to build these fast street cars and built a niche for himself. That's what he likes to do.
Rod sold the '63 car for $300k. Who ever bought it took the bath, not Rod. Roy Sinor was representing the car at BJ along with the '67 L88 Corvette owned by the Steinman Brothers. |

FYI, there was a very nice Le Mans blue original '68 L88 Corvette with original drive train and all paperwork that sold for $880k. Not bad for one of the worst year Vettes built. 80 were built in 1968.
At the end of the day, all L88 Corvettes will rule the roost in collector cars. The '69 Rebel L88 Corvette did $2.7 million plus the commission. So, L88's made a statement at the BJ auction this year. PS: by the way, golfer Bubba Watson, who I have never heard of before is only 35 years old. What does he know about these cars. Jerry, really wished they had shown your old Dave Strickler Camaro go across the block but they cut to commercial and never mentioned it again other than it had sold earlier in one of their quick bits. Do you know who ended up with it?

Rick Hendrick bought the car. Fox broke to commercial when I came up due to the circus with pulling the reserve off the '67 L88. Unfortunately, that car sucked up most of the oxygen on the stage. About 4-5 minutes! And it cut my time in half, was not able to go on the block and talk about the car which sucked. It did get a good home. Rick Hendrick is a gentleman and I've been doing car certifications for him now for quite a while. He is a true car lover and his museum is the nicest in the country. It truly is!

That's a good place. Never knew until this years broadcast that he was a big drag racing fan. Would love to see his museum one day.

I've spent a lot of time at the Hendrick facility and do a lot of car inspections for them. Mr. Hendrick is a very well grounded man and I have a lot of respect for him and all of his staff. They treat everyone with respect. I admire that. Mr. Hendrick is a self made billionaire and owns over 85 dealerships and Hendrick Motorsports.
Last year, I received a personal tour of the Heritage Center by Mr. Hendrick himself. His passion for drag racing began as a teenager and he loves it to this day. He told me stories about running modified production when he was barely out of his teens. The NASCAR team stuff is more of a business than a love as I read it the way he explained it to me. When you compare the revenue Hendrick Motorsports brings in to NHRA, it's a joke. Probably safe to say that Hendrick Motorsports brings in more in one year than NHRA does in about 20 years. I was stunned at some of the numbers. And for us NHRA sportsman racers, it ain't getting better, is it? If National Dragster gets any smaller, you'll need a magnifying glass to read the damn thing!
