If you want to qualify well and go racing for a while with the same combination, build a little neon 2dr with the 09 or so 360 @ 275 hp.
Start out in GT/CA and work your way up to GT/AA. If I was a mopar guy I would be on it, but got other things I'm working on. The cars don't have to be 2500 ship weight anymore, just weight in at min. 2670. I'm not a ford guy either, but you got to hand it to Jim Evanuik, his ZX2 is sharp and fast.

If I were building one:

Ford, Escort ZX2, like Jim Evanuik. 351 like his, or a 352 crate.

Mopar, Dodge Stratus with a smog 340/240-280 motor or a DP motor..

GM: no real preference....we have enough Cobalt/Cavalier/Sunfire/G5 cars. It would have to be something rare (like the Caddy of Ken Sharp). maybe an Olds Alero.

One more vote for the Escort ZX2...maybe with a '69-'70 Boss 302? Or a 4.6 CJ???

So glad you asked...
Have to go with a Korean LeMans with 400 Pontiac rated low enough to keep it in GT/AA.
I haven't worked out the rear wheel opening arrangement yet..
