have 2000 Ford F250 Diesel on the way home from work the light in the lower left corner of the dash looks like a battery started flickering--- lights seem OK amp gauge is where it should be. If the engine RPM is over say 1500 the light goes out but intermittently might come back on--- at an idle up to about 1200-1500 in neutral the light will maybe stay maybe go off--- I'm thinking alternator might be going bad--- is there a voltage regulator on these things?? Any suggestions what it is??? Both batteries are less than 4 years starts OK too---- Any suggestions on where to look??? What is the alternator supposed to put out (voltage) at an idle or wherever I test it---thanx FED 387

Pull the alternator off it and have it tested. Most auto parts stores do it for free. My bet is its going bad.
