Anyone remember Jack Arnew ???

Jack, back in the day, what kind of maintenance did a 4-speed Hemi race car like yours require? Bearing change every 20 runs as per Chrysler Tune-Up Tips (remember those?) recommended?

The pan came off every week, just to be safe.Watched for possible
tangs beginning to give way, and slight bearing problems.
Not always the case though,many times nothing found to be wrong.
Them that could shift well and had a (VERY GOOD) oiling systen had longer bearing life.
I was very luckey as never lost an engine due to bearings, but had a few cranks brake at thrust main in the SS/E conv. as it went 4280lbs at 8000 rpm's on launch. From half of crank wanted to go but back half could not keep up I guess

I know the question was asked a long time ago, but I can now answer yes I'm back on the front end machine,doing what is now fun and not trying to put food on the table.

Thanks for the info, Jack. I once changed the bearings in a (friend's) 440 laying on my back in a cold garage. It took the better part of six hours as I recall. It's not something I'd want to do every weekend! Well, maybe, if I had a lift. :-) That's the drawback of racing a 4-speed Hemi. Speaking of which, I presume those were stock Street Hemi cranks you broke and not the stronger NASCAR Kellogg crankshafts?

I wasn't aware you ran a SS/E Hemi 'Cuda convertible. The only other 4-speed car I'm aware of is that of the Centolanza Bros.



Was your 'Cuda a real Hemi car? Does anyone know if Centolanza's was?

No, it was not orignal hemi car. Dick Shipley supplied a 340 a/t conv for the project.After I had sold the 68 he and Vernon Rowley said I could not stop and they pushed me into building the conv. The car was put toghter with all leftover parts which I had from the 68 and the P/S. I ran it local for a year or two then sold an gave up till now.Looking into doing a nostalgia S/S stick Plymouth of some sort, but would like to sell my 65 ElCamino first.Want a Hemi car,colne not an orignal, too costley to own for this use.
Do not know if Centolanza's was factory. Could have been as it was raced way before mine

Spry? At 75 I think , no I know I still can drive a stick. Running not the problem. Can I cover the cost is the question? Health is not a problem,I have the luck of good genes from my parents. To compete with anything that runs well, Hemi on top of the list, can be very expensive.
I'll have to purchase a running and competive unit as I have no spare parts or two years to build and test something.
Could get luckey and find a ride with someone who no longer wants to or is unable drive. But I don't think that will be the case.Not that luckey

Got a '63 max wedge that does a short shimmy after wheel stand, is this something that you would/could cure.

We had the pleasure of meeting when Brian and I brought our '74 Duster down in '75.

Sure can! I'm back doing drag and street rod suspension again.
Not as fast as I once was, but it still works just like it"s 1975.
