To complete the explanation of handicaps, one should point out that the slower of the two vehicles will always exposed to eliminating themselves with the starting system: The faster of the two cars will not always have this exposure.

You can explain it this way: It is similar to golf. Everyone knows that the person with the higher handicap is the only one that is always exposed to the sand trap. The player with the lower handicap will not be exposed to the sand trap if the higher handicapped person goes in the sand trap first.

The PGA was told once that it would be more fair if both players were equally exposed to the sand traps. They replied that they had done it this way for years and did not see why it should be changed.
