I cut 1 full coil off mine and it's not enough, I would go with the 1 1/8 that was suggested by Jeff.

We used to heat 'em on the car, alternating sides until the ride height was where we wanted.

That is awesome right there. Keep the rate in the spring and just drop the free length.
