I just moved into Webster, TX this week and need my Suburban and trailer inspected for registration in the near future. I expect there may be a few repairs along the way. I'm also assuming private repair shops also do inspections like they did in Jersey.
Are there any racers out there who run a shop in my area? I'd rather spend my money with fellow racers, but will prefer someplace in the southern part of Houston considering how large the area is. If anyone has any suggestions, please PM me. Thanks.

Mike, Texas laws are different, to my knowledge, no such inspection is required [at least I never heard of such]
To find a trustworthy local shop, check your chamber of commerce or better business bureau.

Yes trailer inspection is required in TX other than little trailers under 4500lb gross. They'll look at brakes, lights, reflectors, tires, etc, put a sticker on, pay your $14.50, and you're on your way.
They'll have a sign like this out front if they do inspections. ![]() Harris county is an emissions county, so you'll have an emissions inspection on your Suburban for $39.75, unless it is 25 years old. There are some changes coming, no more inspection stickers starting in March. Starting then you have to get the inspection within the 90 days before renewing the registration, there will be just the one windshield sticker for the registration going forward. I haven't seen them yet clarify if this means the inspection sticker on the tongue of trailers also goes away or not. I hope not, it's easily spotted and makes it easier for officers to make a stop and get the junk with no working lights off the road that you constantly see roofers/contractor types towing around.

It use to be that any vehicle that was registered in another state, had to have an inspection and an out of state form filled out. I always called it the "Green Form", because of the color, so be sure when you get you vehicles inspected you notify the Inspecting person that you need whatever forms filled out for Texas registration. You use to need the extra "Green Form" before you could complete the Texas registration.
It could have changed but you need to ask. RJ |

Thanks for the bit of info. My town is odd. As told to me by the bartender across the street (Asked why there was no smoking in the bar), apparently I live within the Houston City Limits but Webster does the mail service so therefore all the Houston emmisions and smoking laws apply. If I lived a few avenues over I wouldn't need to do emmisons inspection on my truck.

Mike,
Little Automotive just a couple miles south of you here in League City performs inspections and general auto mechanic work. They are trustworthy, honest and good at what they do. All of their advertising is by word of mouth, and they are constantly busy. Tim |

The emissions requirements are by county, you're not going to get out of it anywhere around there, here is the map. What I can't figure is how San Antonio has been able to avoid it all this time. ![]()
