If it is slipping in low gear it will burn the band up almost immediately. Is the fluid burnt smelling? what makes you suspect that the trans is slipping in low gear? Are you using a trans brake? if the band is slipping the car will try to back up when you get up on the brake.

yep adjust the band check the fluid for smell and make sure the shifter cable is in check meaning its all the way in low gear

Alum or steel drum? Red or Kevlar / Carbon band? What is your adjustment? What was it when you checked it and did you have to change it? What is your line pressure that is in spec? The other guy posting is correct that if it does slip in low gear, its gonna do it a couple times and then stop when it doesn't move anymore. So its usually not something that comes and goes so I think it might be something else you are feeling.

Is this a foot-braked et-bracket type car? I'm wondering if you got too much converter
for your combo....assuming you went to the 7" after running an 8".

Has the transmission ever worked? Or is this all new? If the converter sprag is broken or fins laid over it will try and stall the engine, pull hard in gear and you have to use lots of brake pressure, and will not Flash at all.

Especially the cable adjustment. I had an issue with cable/linkage adjustment on a glide that caused slippage in low if I held pressure on the shifter (as if to hold it in gear).

The shifter was actually traveling beyond where it needed to be and the car would porpoise on the launch.

Some fine tuning and learning to leave the shifter alone until it was time to use it cured the problem.
