We are talking about real racers with real cars that go fast, win class at places like Indy, set records, and pass tech. I'm disappointed that some of the respondents don't quite meet the criteria.

I have read of some great engine builders on this thread that would make any Stk, S/S racer as happy as one could get if they built their motor. Some from the East and some from the West and a lot from points in between. Friendships have been developed between racer & builder and trust and communication is at the base of these relationships. Some very fast cars out there. Of course the subject of credibility according to a combos potential, it's legality, or it's horse power rating, or any other contributing factors come into play. But the bottom line is when your car goes fast and you can beat the other guy that is in your class, now that is very rewarding to the both of you. Yes, factoring comes into play, but that is the game we chose to abide by.

When I heard the news at the beginning of the year that a certain prominent race operation was faced with the loss of it's general funding, I immediately thought, "what is he going to do". Surely there would be tons of people wanting to hire him, after all he has accomplished so many achievements. So I thought, "wouldn't it be great to get him to do my motor, nobody would believe it. What a shock to Stock Eliminator".

The first thing that I had to do was to make sure that he still wasn't under any contract obligations. So I called his sponsor, the head guy, just to make sure everything was in order. Mr. Al A. Nabi. He tells me that Alan is available, that there are no more ties. Well I'm just ecstatic. I immediately start to set everything up.

After going over all the particulars, rule limitations, set backs, tolerances, flexibility of matching components, aerodynamic principals in a confined combustible area, molecular distribution in heated environments, heat conductivity in relation to transferable materials, proton/electron/neutron rates of travel, direct gravity influences in a controlled atmosphere, and other simple equations, of course this is a collaboration of different species, we decided I could probably pick up a tenth or two.

Everything was going along just great, until I found out that his heads might be a little off due to composite materials. All the research and conclusions were now inadequate.

So sadly I have to inform all of you, that my previous boast of my engine builder now has somewhat gone astray. I was so looking forward to this introduction of him into Stock Eliminator.

Now is the time for me to look at all of the wonderful suggestions of who is the best Stock/Super Stock Engine Builders.

So whether or not the motor stays together long enough to win an eliminator is not a factor here? Just that it goes fast enough to win a round or two of class eliminations and pass tear down?

My vote, may be a little biased, lol, is for Brian Tilburg. Not taking anything away from guys like Gulius, Parsons & Myers, etc. but I know from my own experiences that he builds a very fast and durable motor. I guess part of that durability is up to the driver and crew to keep up on checks, maintenance and tuning.

Now if you are a new guy looking for an engine builder, I do not recommend Tilburg! He's already too busy!!! LOL Just kidding!

Ditto. If you ask Decker, South, Randall, Hodge, Greg & Andrew Hill, Greg Meyer, Foxbower, and many others, they would certainly concur.

Give David a call at Reher Morrison. Their first ever SS/AH hemi just won class at the Cajun Sports Nationals which had the current record holder there. Passed a four hour tear down inspection. Bruce, Brad, Darin and all the staff are great to work with.

Give it a listen:

I guess I am not a "real racer" but not taking anything away from any of these engine builders, because I've read about how good they are for years, how come nobody has mentioned Ray and David Barton. They have a seem to have a handle on Hemi's, old and new, and have for a few years. The couple of times I've spoken to Ray, he probably wasn't in the running for Mr. Congeniality, but he doesn't have to be, to build a good engine. The couple of times I've spoken to David, that is one smart guy, and his late model Hemi stuff proves it.
Harry Holton deserves a mention for all of the engines he built during the West Coast Hemi run.
I think he was slightly mentioned, but Charlie Wescott Jr. can make anything go fast-so far. He has done it with Chevy's, Hemi's, and we'll see with the Ford, even though he's already done some stuff with Ray Paquet. I sure wouldn't bet against him!
I have to agree with a previous post, as far as nice guys, that build fast stock/super stock engines, you won't find any nicer guys than Bruce, and Hot Rod, at Parson's & Myers. I have the privilege to live close to them, and stop by there shop, and they are the real deal.
Also, for Mopars, Kammer & Kammer, with John Lovins, here in Dayton.
Just a "not real racer's" two cents.

Hard to forget about someone that has done it for years before I was even a thought in his mind. I've never had anyone else's engine in my car, but when I've needed the power its been there for me. I can think of a few other people that it has been there for as well. He may be old school, or maybe just old, but no one else can do what he does with a small budget and get that kind of power from an engine. This person I'm talking about is my dad. The power im talking about is a Koppien engine.

I'm putting in my $.02 for B&B Automotive Machine on Long Island, NY with Glenn Briglio and Henry Kunz. They did a great job with our Buick 350. Henry's H/SA Nova runs rather well also!
