Daryl,

1968 Super Stock Magazine Nationals

~ General Overview ~

Friday ~ July 19

* Time Trials {For the Stockers and Super Stocks}

* The Track was over-flowing with competitors.

* Approximately {150 Super Stockers}. Nearly every top S/S Car
from the Northeast was there, along with many of the 'big names'

* And every Top Stocker in the Northeast was there, totaling
approximately {120 Cars}.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday ~ July 20

* Class Run-Off's for Super Stock

* Stock Eliminator {Stockers did 'not' have Class Run-Off's}

* Time Trials > Competition Eliminator {Gasser's and Altered's}

* Time Trials > {Funny Cars}

* Time Trials > {Injected AWB's} ~ {Weights > 2400 lbs. ~ 2700 lbs. ~ 3000 lbs.}

Stock Eliminator Championship

* Winner > Carmine Rotunda ~ 1961 Corvette {Green} 283/270 HP 'Dual Quad' - {F/S}

* Runner-Up > Wayne Jesel ~ 1956 Chevrolet 'Sedan Delivery' Wagon - 265/225 HP - {L/SA}

Carmine Rotunda

''Yoo Hoo Too'

Featured a 265/225 HP 'Dual Quad' in the 1956 Sedan Delivery. Since this vehicle was
listed as a 'Truck', the NHRA permitted the use of the 4-Speed Hydra-Matic Transmission,
which made these Chevy Delivery 'Stockers' near unbeatable.

Engine prepared by; Tommy Kling {Truppi-Kling}
Transmission by; Vitar {Vinnie Tarantola}

Wayne Jesel and 'partner' Tony Massari campaigned the 'Yoo Hoo Too''.

Tony was not as involved with the car in 1968, and Wayne was the 'primary'
owner.

The deal with 'Yoo Hoo' was very simple >

Yoo-Hoo Chocolate Beverage Corp. {Carlstadt, New Jersey} gave them
{ $2500 } as a sponsorship fee. > Today's dollar value { $18,000 }.

How did they get a 'sponsorship deal'. Very simple. Tony Massari's father was
on the Board of Director's of 'Yoo Hoo''.

The cost to put the 1956 Sedan Delivery together ..... $2200.

Now that is a 'Junior Stocker'.

Daryl,

General Facts at the 1968 Super Stock Magazine Nationals

S & K Speed Shop

They did not compete in Super Stock Class Eliminations or
Super Stock Eliminator.

Their LO23 Dart was still undergoing some 'fine tuning'.

Though they were there at New York National Speedway, they
only ran 'Time Trials' with the SS/B Dart.

If you look closely at those photos from July 1968 at New York
National Speedway, you could see that the Dart was just painted.

Also, the front windshield is 'shoe-polished' with 'Time', indicating
Time Trial only.

Sal M******, who was there filming many of the Races, stated that in
his Film Stock, the S & K Speed Shop Dart ran;

Time Trial 1 ........ 11.22
Time Trial 2 ........ 11.14

They were experiencing some 'shifting' or Clutch issues.
