So, Dick, what does this have to do with a new combination being added to the class guide?

please my friends on this thread don't take too much offense to this....
if it is your GOAL to be a number one qualifier and your means to obtain that goal is to lobby NHRA to place an underfactored vehicle into competition so that you may benefit by the unfairness gifted in this venture then maybe your goal was to take advantage of the ignorance of NHRA and use it against your fellow racers ??? a lofty goal few would aspire to. ive been getting my ***** kicked for years, both by legitimate and now the paper cars. it grieves me to the point of quitting to know that I cannot compete for my class at indy with possibly the purest U/SA car in the country because NHRA keeps placing cars into my class with no consideration of fairness or rhyme or reason for that matter... at least the caddilac was made and in the books for anyone to find... not a mail order bride for some @#$%sucker to be number one at indy with. IF I go to indy I will either take it in the ***** or try to HIDE in another either not setting well with me, but hey it may well be the last indy might as well keep my qualifying streak alive ... captain jack -1.10 no dime rocket, and just a sidenote in U/SA thanks NHRA

NHRA already has created so many classes to increase paying entries it becomes difficult for two same class cars to enter some National events with low quotas. The low entry events make for many BYE runs for a trophy. The very thing which drew many real competitors for years to the events. " Man I won a trophy at INDY" I had 12 cars to beat as opposed to I changed class and had a bye and won a trophy. Some people like to watch competition as well as participate in large class participation. No don't make all classes for one combination but AH is way to expensive to attract all racers or even new entries. Jack said it well. |

Very simple..Class winners only in the Eliminator. Take some of the eliminator money , along with some new sponsor funds from those who would benefit from such a format, and pay it to the class winners. To be continued, I'm sure...

For several years now (2009) there are no more 'bye runs for a trophy'. All cars that are the lone entrant in their Class get thrown together in one of four Combo classes (Super Stock Stick and Auto, Stock Stick and Auto; and in 2015 they added a Combo for the Factory cars, so six Combo Classes now). It's run like Comp (handicapped start, first to the stripe wins). The one winner of each of those Combo Classes gets the Wally. Maybe you need to pay closer attention to things. Oh that's right--you're up to your neck in a new heads-up Modified-type Class that will most likely never happen.

Mark -
I agree with you. At least at a couple of races a year. And the heck with quotas for those races - if you think you've got what it takes to race and win in heads up competition, then bring it on. If NHRA wants a show based on competition, then create a race based on competition.

Dwight, NHRA doesn't care to make it based on competition in class. Their goal is become all inclusive.
Mike Carr , I stand corrected I should have remembered the newer format. Jeff Kempton, Thanks, I got Nitro Joes stats and am reviewing the class make up. JA also has a varied entry list. Sure none are low expense to build or race.. Great discussion. Thanks to all those who added and respected my comments. Reasonable time to end my input on this thread.
