Like Dale mentioned, it all depends on what kind of pictures you plan on taking. The GoPro Hero-series, ReplayXD and the Wasp Video camera will all take excellent in-car (and with the right mounts, on-car) video. GoPro also has it's own editing software which is easy to use to convert the raw video into something you can share on YouTube and Instagram.

Speaking from my experience, for a good Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera, your only limitation is your budget! Seriously, all of the major manufacturers make an entry-level camera body with interchangeable lenses in the $200 to $300 range. Find a camera store that has a good selection so you can get a feel for the different sizes that are available. A DSLR with a medium lens and as many mega-pixels as you can afford is a good camera to start with, as you can accessorize later with different lenses and attachments as your skills improve.

The one great thing about digital photography is that you can take as many pictures as you want and there's no processing fee at Walgreens! Good luck and I hope you'll share your pictures here on ClassRacer!
