Unless this track has time slips that show ET and RT to the ten-thousandth of a second (0.0001), you probably should not have been reinstated in the race where you had a better package by 0.002, IMHO. The time slips that are printed either truncate or round the ACTUAL ET and RT (measured to better than 0.0001). As such, with each time listed where the time is NOT shown to the 4th digit, there is an error of +/-0.0005 seconds. Multiply that by four (ET and RT for each driver), and you have a maximum display error on the time ticket of up to 0.002 seconds (when calculating the package by hand off of the ET and RT numbers listed on the time slip).

If the MOV (which is typically displayed to 0.0001 seconds on the time slip) showed that your competitor got to the finish line first by 0.002 or less, then the truncation / rounding issue above is why you lost.

Unfortunately, I know about this because I had it happen to me once, before the MOV was printed on the ticket. I did not get reinstated, and was offered the same above explanation, which scientifically is correct.

Now, 0.006 seconds?!?! That one I can't explain...

Tim..

That was put in as a joke!! mainly to get people lost if they ever did it.
I know within two time trials or less you would know were you are ,, but alot of people would be lost.

Lee,,know a guy (this is true) that back in the 80`s before RTs came out in this area,,,would carry 4 sets of tires in a 12:00 (1/8 mile ) barracuda,,,,,,,he would start with one set and adjsut till he went red and then go back to the other set,,,,won nearly every other race he went to for 4 or 5 years till RT`s came out,,,funny as hell but it worked,,,,,,what was really funny,,as drivers started to understand what he was doing,,,it looked like nascar today,,,,make a lap and change tires,,,,,I remember thats how racers marked their spots,,,they would get out,,and stack the tires in their pits

One guy explained to me why they were doing this,,,,I learned a good trick,,,didnt have a clue what deepstaging was and no one did it,,,,didnt know it was legal to knock the top lite out so I would burn through the lites and back into them until the top lite came on and then drop it in gear,,,,,well,,won 4 or 5 in a row and so it caught on quick,,,instead of changing tires,,,,go thru and back into the lites,,,,,,,,well that last a whole 3 or 4 months UNTIL some idoit forgot to put his car in 1st gear and left in reverse,,,,,lucky,,no one was hurt but nevertheless,,,that was all of that ,,,funny as hell to think back on all the **** Ive seen thru the years !!!!!
