I'd say most folks don't trust their elected and appointed officials. We had an issue here locally about a huge zoning change and building variances. Many residents turned out for multiple meetings. The most telling comment was the head of the board said "You didn't elect me to do what you want, you elected me to do what I want." Politicians only listen to voters if they think they might not get re-elected. The site of course turned out to be a major nuisance as all the changes were done for K-Mart (remember them?) with semis now parked overnight and weekends in the middle of a residential area and folks dumping whole sacks of feed on the ground for huge flocks of birds and vermin.

Dear Mr. Calabro:

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for S. 2659, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. Your opinion is very important to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you on this critical issue.

As you may know, this legislation would prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from setting emission standards for any vehicle used exclusively in competitions. The RPM Act was introduced on March 9, 2016, and has been referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works, of which I am not a member.

Recent reports have indicated the EPA intends to ban the conversion of street vehicles into racecars in its rulemaking for heavy-duty greenhouse gas emissions. However, the EPA has indicated that it simply intends to clarify that an existing exemption in the Clean Air Act for non-road vehicles pertains to certain competition vehicles like dirt bikes and snowmobiles, and that tampering with the emission control systems of motor vehicles has always been illegal under the Clean Air Act. I understand that on this issue, as with any other, there are many different viewpoints. Please be assured that I will keep your thoughts squarely in mind should the RPM Act come before the Senate for a vote.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance. I invite you to visit my website (http://menendez.senate.gov) to learn more about how I am standing up for New Jersey families in the United States Senate.

Just recieved a reply from the New York Senator (NY values?) I emailed. My reply is on bottom too.

Dear Mr. Lamprecht,

Thank you for writing to me regarding your support of S. 2659, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016.

I understand your views on this legislation, however I am concerned that, S. 2659, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016, would remove protections placed in the Clean Air Act.

The Clean Air Act authorizes EPA to establish National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) to protect public health and public welfare and to regulate emissions of hazardous air pollutants. Without protections like these, our children and families could suffer health complications, including asthma and other respiratory ailments.

As a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, I believe it is important to ensure we are protecting our clean air. We must not create loopholes for emissions that would potentially harm our environment and families, while also protecting racecar enthusiast's rights.

Thank you again for writing to express your concerns, and I hope that you keep in touch with my office regarding future legislation. For more information on this and other important issues, please visit my website at http://gillibrand.senate.gov and sign up for my e-newsletter.

MY REPLY

Thank you for your reply. I just see it as another over reach of the Federal Goverment and over regulation. The EPA needs to go.

Maybe Mr trump can win NY State this time.

William Lamprecht

Considering that an entire season of NHRA drag racing does not put as much pollutants into the air as one of Mr. Obama's vacation trips, it is easy to see who they are concerned about.

At least he had the guts to tell you to go pack sand. Most of the time with these guys, it's "I will keep your views in mind as I struggle with this important issue" without committing one way or the other.
