H/S 1968 Chevy II NHRA record holder in 1970-1971. 350 Hi Compression engine, Muncie trans. Ran low 12.'s at 112 on an average run on 7" slicks. Weather conditions and the track itself played a big part in those numbers. Showroom stock street driven cars is a completely different story. Most muscle cars ran 14's and maybe some high 13's. Street tires were not usually going to allow fast et's back then. Limited et's on even the most powerful cars. Tracks were almost all asphalt. No concrete yet other than a very few places. Asphalt was fine in cool weather but terrible in the hot summer. 7" slicks were marginal on high HP stock cars back then. Big block cars routinely went pretty sideways sometimes off the line.

Rick T,
Thanks, I have that June 1968 list already. A "June 1970" list like that would be a gold mine. Rich B, Thanks, I have your Nova already at 12.25 at 114mph - a "good weather" day? |

This one is said to have set the national record with a 12.27 @ 114.64mph in C/S, in 1963.
http://www.supercars.net/blog/1963-p...-swiss-cheese/ I saw that but still cant figure how a 3300 lb Swiss Cat got into C/S at 10.60 lb/hp in 1963. What am I missing? |

I have that record page on my desktop computer. Tried to post it but it was just not very readable. I will try making a bigger copy tomorrow at work and post it.
