I've always known these Belvedere's to run in SS/DA or EA. Saw one the other day on FB running in A/SA.
Can someone shed some wisdom on me regarding this? |

I'm not sure what you are looking at on FB, but it's easy to confuse the new set of '66 Street Hemi cars with the '67 RO and WO cars since it was surprisingly discovered after 40 years that you could get the scoop and battery relocation in 1966, too.

The car is owned and piloted by Steve Hagberg out of CO. It's a real RO23. A new build and turned out very nice from the pictures. Can't wait to see it in person.

Dwight, I have done a lot of research on the 67 RO-23 package and have been trying to get the hood scoop approved for the 67 440 GTX in stock eliminator. NHRA won't allow the scoop on the 67 GTX, and I'm ok with that, BUT. Chrysler Corp.,Dodge, and Plymouth DID NOT put a hood scoop on anything from the factory. There is a picture of a 66 Dodge Coronet with a Max Wedge hood scoop that was the prototype for the 67 RO-23 and the WO-23 packages, and it never left the factory. Therefore, I don't think the 66 cars should be allowed to run the scoop. Sorry to the two racers that run them. For the MoPar racers it is good to see the 64, and 65 A990 cars can now run stock eliminator, and now the 67 WO-23 and RO-23 cars.

The '67 RO/WO cars got accepted into Stock along with the '64 A864, and '65 A990 cars. The Thunderbolts are legal too. Basically they approved a bunch of low production S/S only combinations a few years back in hopes of helping to increase car counts and diversity among Stock when the 'new' cars hit.
As far as the '66 cars running the scoop...I'm slowly building a '66 Sedan for S/S, and I refuse to put the scoop on it. It's only a matter of time before it gets called for what it really is, and they are forced to go back to flat hoods. Think '69 Camaro cowl hoods. Plus, That's another hood to find, and paint, on top of the $1500 for a steel scoop. I'd rather put the $2k I'd have in a hood, into the engine. |

Not at all. Just fulfilling a dream with what I have available to me.
I always wanted a Hemi S/S car, and I had a '66 Hemi Coronet Sedan more or less fall into my lap a few years ago. It was an old IHRA Formula Stock car, and had already been tubbed with a rollbar and etc. I had it updated, and have been working on it as time and money allows. I personally think it's downright homely looking, but it's growing on me. I prefer the '64-65 cars. I'm not too far off right now. I need to get the valvetrain parts, and some other miscellaneous internals. I have everything else I need to finish the car. Last edited by Steve Stasko; 06-22-2016 at 02:59 PM. |

My favorite has been the Belvedere I sedan a la Jere Stahl (RIP), simply because I have an affinity to real dealer level production cars. The '67 SS cars make more sense, though.
I have a fond memory of a '66 Satellite hemi 4-speed car on 9-inch slicks disappearing into the night at an unsupervised, impromptu acceleration contest in the summer of 1966. The combination of the Dana 60 and the MoPar clutch created a sound like banging a tympani drum every time it shifted. Brutal!
