Hmmmm, Looked in garage. I've got 2 small journal forged 327's and a forged 283. I do have some more cranks over at my warehouse. I'll try to get over there soon and let you know.

Last four numbers cast into the crank are 1001.Seems to be the only number for the cast crank,307 or 327.

Terry, I think all 283 and small journal 327 cranks are forged.

Some late (65-67) 283s were built with cast cranks, but you are right about the small journal 327s.

More decades ago than I like to think,I bought a 283 core, took it home, dismantled it, and it had a cast crank. The balancer was"t really a balancer, it was a one piece cast hub. it also had a bronze pilot bushing in the rear of the crank. I still have the hub-I use it with my degree wheel when plying with camshafts. I used the block in my 66 Chevy I had at the time, all that stuff is long sold off. I do remember the 283 cast crank, though.

I don't know much about this, but why not use a small journal forged crank with the spacer main bearings? And small journal rods?

I know at least SOME 68-69 327 cranks were forged, maybe all but i'm not sure
I also know 265/283 cranks were forged, except the later (67 fur sure) were cast...
