Danny, you are absolutely right about the system IHRA tried, it was only slightly better than the one car length per class we got before the Christmas tree came out, probably would have been better had the tree been blocked but still terrible for the lower class cars.

Back about 100 years ago when I started in this sport NASCAR was the governing body at Atco in NJ and they had a Leavers lose (LL) system.
Staging lights, one yellow and one green, basically a pro tree,. I believe it was a five tenths tree. The tree was shaded so you couldn't see the other guys light. JimR
