Default Re: 66 chevy ll cage

I usually use the 33% figure as a rule of thumb, since most cars done in the last 20 years have .134"wall ERW tube instead of .120 DOM
Average chrome moly roll cage weighs around the same as a .134" wall mild steel roll bar.
The added safety from a cage in a car like a shoebox Nova is worth the price and even a few pounds.
It's not just how fast you are going any more, you have to consider the 150+mph bullet on 9" tires in the other lane .

Our Nova really benefited from a cage compared to when it had a moly bar in it. They are not the strongest cars. I believe there is a rule change in stock that might allow you to extend the bar past the firewall now. Worth checking it out.

170+Tom! Excellent advice. Many years ago at Union Grove on their Wednesday Grudge Night you could enter a trophy class for a few dollars more. I had to run a 9 second Vega in the final with a new street car that I had dialed in at 19 seconds. The drivers father came over to me and told me to "Stay in your lane because my son is going to be coming real fast" to which I replied "This bone stock slowed down car dialed 5 seconds slower than normal will have no problem going straight, it's your son I'm nervous about."
