Jeremy, things are going good. I missed all the races so far because I was repainting my car and doing some suspension work on it. I will be at Atlanta and Reynolds and hopefully it will hook. Also I hope you are getting better. See ya at the races Trevor

Mr. Waibel (Sr.) is right on the money with his remark....not to mention all of the pieces that are available today with the click of a mouse or a charge card and cell-phone. Back then, many parts were home-made!
And don't forget today's tires...What Dave Kempton did was tremendous considering the day.....wasn't there a similar car out there run by a guy named Doug Kahl? |

"LITTLE" George Cureton???
Only guy I know of who could have FLAT-TOWED his car from Wilmington, Delaware (?) to the '67 NHRA World Finals at Tulsa, Oklahoma, won the Eliminator in a traction-limited car (4.10 1st gear X 4.88 or maybe 5.38:1 gear on 7" tires) in the starting RAIN, tore the engine down immediately after the final in that same rain (at the runner-up's demand), was pronounced "legal", had almost NO lettering on the car to speak of, and not decal ONE, but got it all together for the photo-shoot... and, they called him "little " George Cureton??? LOL!!! What a joke! I think the man is/was a GIANT, on the basis of that one race, alone..... If I got any of that wrong, please correct me; that's the best I can do after 40 years of shaking my head about it (Yes, I was there.) Still shaking my head about that truly amazing accomplishment. Of course, he gets my vote.. but, I'd nominate Ben Wenzel for First Runner-Up... Can you say "persistence"????

Merry Christmas from Baghdad, I'm not old enough to remember Jr Stock (37 years old) but Neil Smedley told me he has footage of me about 5 years old on 8 mm film next to Jim Marshalls car at Niagra. Don't let his youthful looks fool ya -- he is older than Dirt!!!! HAHA Daran
