I have often wondered about those stk super/stk combo races. I guess they don't have them around here. Is it basically just a name? Are there class run offs inspections, etc? Or just a bracket race?

Up here in the Northwest, a Stock/Super Stock Combo is a bracket race restricted to NHRA classified Stock and Super Stock cars. Kinda like a muscle car party. Jim Storms and James Boyce have organized a combo series for several years, mostly run at Pacific Raceways. Jody Lang, Brad Burton, Brian Seaburg, Tommy Gaynor...pushovers like that. Great fun.

No funny cars allowed...

The combos are run very well. No scales, no heads up and must run under the index. Some of the guys and gals use the combos for more seat time and a test and tune session. The winners have been a mix of Stock or Super Stock cars and trucks.
I am usually in charge of the ladder and help collect money, if needed. All the cars/ trucks run pretty much where they usually do, so no funny business by anyone. They are meant to be fun and everyone seems to have a great time.

A/FX is a legal class within Nostalgia/SS. Much the same way GT/AA, A/SA, SS/AS, FS/C etc etc are legal classes within S/SS. Nost/SS cars are welcome to run with our series/races. Much like traditional S/SS cars.

Bottom line: that A/FX car was as legit and legal to compete in the race as the other sixty-some cars on the property on Sunday.

When you look in the dictionary under snobby NHRA class racers you know who you will find. Talking about the pot calling the kettle black. You're right they did go too far when they allowed factory race cars in stock/ superstock.

"Factory race cars" like 442s, 427 Corvettes, Camaros and Fairlanes pretty much started what we now consider Stock and Super Stock. Not exactly practical street machines in the 60's.

EDIT: In regards to the footbrake/transbrake/delay box part of this discussion, Bremerton Raceway out here runs a John Kilroy Footbrake Challenge every year and the turnout is great. 75 cars last race. Stock, Super Stock, Pro ET and Super Street cars all ran under foot brake rules. Great fun.

My observation has been that S/SS is more of a combination of race car and racer thing. Rules and classification details are very important to these folks and they respect the sport more than most would expect. I built my Mustang for GT/ but didn't get it right so I just ran bracket for the first year rather than mess with this turf. I'm working to fix that now.

I am talking about today's factory raceways that you cannot purchase through the dealer or title and tag.

Practical? Did that even enter the thought process when the Muscle cars were rumbling around town? Face it; 'back in the day' if you didn't have one you wanted one. If you're too young to remember those days then it was great times, take our word for it. As to the A/FX, it doesn't seem much different than the new non-VIN low eight second rockets now in "Stock". Don't have anything against either, realistically the Combos need to stay viable by whatever means the local association deems necessary and based on who they represent.

Just curious, how did you come up with an index for the A/FX car?

Stock is just a big Bracket Race with a lot of rules with Tear Downs from time to time!

Just pull them from the magic index hat like NHRA does with the Copo's and C J's!

At these combos just go and race and May the best drivers win! After all aren't you guys there to race?

All the pissing and moaning is a joke!
GO RACE,
