The problem with big swings in temperature is moisture forming on the inside of the metal container. It's made even worse by the metal container sitting on a dirt, concrete, or metal floor. Always store containers of race fuel on wood pallets or wood planks.
Once water begins to accumulate in the can, rust can begin, and it doesn't take long.
And the metal can, or for that matter any container with race fuel in it, will see a pressure increase as the temps rise. And that can force the light ends out of an incorrectly sealed container. Those light ends are important in racing fuel.
