It is a camaro manual box.
I found some measurements online and it looks like the column shaft is pushed in about 1/4". |

When I switched over to a manual box from another Camaro, I believe I had to change the rag joint. But I dont recall a gap.

Thanks for all this information . I didn't know the difference was in the rag joint . I have always gotten a manual box with the joint on it , so everything fit .

I know I have the correct rag joint.
My initial question was about the column it self. Thought I've seen 33" and 32" lengths. I wasn't sure if the column was different power to manual. It appears the column has been compressed. Tried tapping on it with no luck. Later today I'm gonna try and get a strap around it and try to pull it out. |

That car has a collapsible steering column probably was in an accident at some time and collapsed. Take it out and look at the spring mesh see if it is collapsed. You might be able to pull the shaft out enough to allow you to bolt it to the rag joint.

The shaft is definitely pushed up it the column. It is a slip fit. Maybe tight from being jammed into the lower bearing at the bottom. That is your only problem

Thanks guys.
I have another column that also appears to be collapsed. Hopefully 1 will slide out. |

Try bolting a slide hammer to your flange, should get some action with that.
