If a fuel cell is in the trunk, are we required to seal the package tray with a steel or aluminum cover?

IIRC, the choices are .028 steel or .040 Aluminum.

Thanks off to the local steel supplier I go, is it the same thickness to cover holes in the firewall?

The book specifies .024 steel or .032 aluminum to cover the hole left from removing the heater. Specs aren't given for all the smaller holes in the firewall but I used scrap aluminum and fireproof header wrap for the open grommet holes and black RTV for the pinholes.The RTV was suggested by the local tech.

I have found that one inch boiler plate works real well for covering the packsge tray and rear seat areas. A little difficult to get into position but i feel that it gives an extra margin of safety between the driver and fuel cell.

That is exactly what I tell the racers that have me make CUSTOM 50 lb. package trays for their camaros and novas ....they then utter some nonsense about how they love to have weight up that high in their car....I then remind them that when they lock up the brakes at the finish line, turn the car sideways, this 50 lb. package tray could possibly decapitate them....Their final answer.....that's how you drive the stripe...

Wow, if you stay on here long enough you're bound to learn all these tricks. I was thinkng about putting the stock tank back in to get around having to do this, but not now.I guess that's the last thing to do After I weight the car.
PS. I'm hoping its light enough to use that trick.
