Are you running it down track or just in the pits? On my sons 500 hp LS1 street car we lost 6 hp on the wheel dyno with the air filter on. Tom

The reason for the loss is attributed to the permeability of the gauze media in question - approximately 80 SCFM per square foot at .5" w.g. In addition, the outlet configuration and resulting profile are poor.

Why are you considering the use of a filter?

I run it all the time with filter.

I'm guessing you don't use the Jessel belt driven front mounted distributor? I used one at dusty tracks, until I went to a Bowtie block and put that thing on. Won't fit now. I have zip tied a damp shop towel over the TB to try to keep dust out of my cylinders. At Noble I often pull it off in the staging lanes, put it back on down on the return road. Every year I swear I'm not going back. LOL

I don't have a Jessel belt drive as I don't think that would be allowed in Stock. I use a filter to keep non air particles or chunks out of engine.

Nobile is one of the dirtiest pit areas I've encountered. Ennis is right there too.

Tulsa is also nasty if it is dry, worse if the wind is out of the north. Blows dust from that pasture looking area, used for pit space at points races, all over all of us. Ennis, a couple weeks ago, was not bad.
I put the damp shop towel on, pull it in the staging lanes just before getting in the car, put it back on at fuel check. Spent too much on expensive pistons, rings, and honing, for good ring seal to suck that crap through it. If it was just a bracket car, I would not have that kind of parts in it, would not be as big a deal to me.

I run mine all the time on my Super Stocker. Had to put a little dent in it and tweak it to fit around the front drive distributor. Haven't noticed a difference with it vs without. But I don't make much HP.
If I tried Ed's towel trick, I'm sure I'd forget and leave it on. Not quite as old, but forgetful! LOL
