I am changing from a 330hp crate engine to a carbureted 305 setup for my 85 Camaro stocker. I have been using Doug Thorley's 1 3/4 inch conventional long tube headers with the crate engine. Will these headers work on the 305 for now? I know that I will need to probably use a step header with the 305 combination sooner than later. I realize that Elston, Weldperformance, and Pete Z produce top of the line headers. They are very knowledgeable and build a great product. However, I am sure everyone is not running $3,000 headers on their car. What other headers are out there for this application that have worked well in the past? I welcome any advice. Thanks in advance. Jason

You might be able to find a set of Stahl stepheaders....1 5/8 to 1 3/4....a lot of bang for the buck...

STR001,
I would recommend a set of Stahls. 15/8 to 13/4 stepped. That's what I have on my car. Talk to Stump at Stahl. He's a very nice guy and I'm sure he will make you a set.

Has anyone that has used the Stahl headers (1 5/8 to 1 3/4 step) on a third gen. camaro had any tire clearance issues with the #7 and #8 tube that extend through the fender well and wraps around the frame?. Concerned there may be a tire clearance or turning radius issue trying to fit these headers with a tall front runner (27.5-28 inch). Jason

Would 1 1/2 to 1 5/8 be better?
