Default Re: 305 engine block question

You may want to check with tech on the legality of a 4 bolt block. Back when my engines were built, I was told by Div 5 that a 4 bolt was not legal, only 2 bolt. But, that was a long time ago and things have certainly changed.

The eBay add states the block is bored and finshed honed. Um, how is that possible without caps on it. While I'm no machinist, I don't think I've ever heard of a block being bored and honed without caps on it.

Buying that eBay block, then adding caps to it, and then working out the bore will not be "cost effective".

If your going to spend that kind of money, I would recommend you sleeve a larger bore block or go aftermarket. I have a 350 sleeved and a 307 sleeved. The 307 block I used was an early model, cast in a 350 mold. It had very thick walls to start and then got 8 sleeves. Very good piece.
