Wow is right....
An abomination !!! Who would pay to watch that nonsense. Not me and that's for sure. Obviously $$$ talks Sure its ok as a promotion somewhere else but not at a big event like the Gators 50th.....or any national event for a group with that kind of history racing. Really lame....

I wouldn't care if they were racing go karts down the track. Just not right to tell the racers that support you all year long. And for several years that you don't have enough room or time to open up the quota's for them. BP

The irony of this whole exercise is that the Millennial generation they are appealing to most likely doesn't even know who these drag racing legends are... They'll be choosing favorites based on the car graphics or gender or some other meaningless metric.

Well, I see Chris Karamesines is entered in TF, guess I need to redefine "legends".

It' looks like NHRA is looking to assist the Greek in his demise.

Back when we were bracket racing every weekend, many of the tracks would occasionally bring in a match race of some sort, between 2 mostly unknown cars.
And even worse, sometimes it would be a jet car, making exhibition runs. Mostly just makin lots of noise & shaking the ground. I suppose these things were done to try to get a few more paying spectators in the gate. We figured that there were seldom, if ever enuff extra spectators to pay for the deal. We thought the tracks should just increase the payouts, to bring in more racers. I suppose many of the track owners finally realized that, since there are now LOTS of high dollar bracket races, pulling LOTS of cars. |
