And then they stopped checking entire cars for other illegal modifications (heavy roofs, rear quarters, filled cages, acid dipped doors fenders etc.) except when enough people bitched about certain cars. Seems it all got out of hand during the mid to late 80s.

All that stuff was going on in the seventies
and I know in Division 1 people we're caught and sent packing. Greg X , Bob Lang and crew we're tuff...200 pound spare tires and all..lol
