How about the 6th fastest car in an FS/ class qualified to race in Stock Eliminator and was .39 slower than the fastest car in his class...

So could you please explain exactly what go fast or go home means.

I would think that the 6th fastest out of 7 cars in his class didn't go fast and didn't go home...

I didn't know that stat about the FS/ cars from last year. I am a 'go fast or go home' guy (in worthless opinion only, I don't currently have a S or SS car). Your point is valid. That a 'slow' car in a class shouldn't probably make it in the field. Is that more an issue of the respective FS/ classes having soft indexes though? Or insert any other class where a racer is .39 slower than their classes fastest but still makes the always fast Indy 128.

I can appreciate and have full respect for guys & gals that flogged on their combo and squeeze every last morsel or ET, and a little more out to be the fastest car, every year, in their class. And are the car to beat on heads up run. It takes sacrifices of time and money year round. But at the end of the year, they only crown 1 NHRA stock eliminator champ, and it is based on their round win points total. Qualifying, in all classes (pro and sportsman) currently, is based solely on ET. So if class winners were granted a pass for the next year because they won, but are 'slow' but cut a good light, used starting line mind games or whatever they did to beat the other guy/gal, would it not be the only class in the NHRA umbrella to do that?

Well Andy,

I don't know where to start, because I don't understand what you are talking about.

I am talking about the 65th US Nationals at INDY.

I'm not talking about last years winners.

There are a lot of GFOGH people that are not fast and who think they are.

A win in CLASS sorts that out.

Try it you might like it.

Travel across the country to race the best, who traveled across the country to race you.

I am trying not be a jerk, but if you haven't done it than it's very difficult to get what INDY is all about.

Yeah, I guess I misread that you meant win class and then auto entered into eliminations, in the same year of the event. Fair enough. Been to Indy multiple times as a spectator and with my Dad's different cars. I believe I get what it is about, but I have never felt the feeling of standing in front of the class winner billboard as the winner, or made the field as a driver, or turned the corner to see a packed grandstands, etc. So it turns out I probably don't get INDY.
I respectfully still think 128 best qualifying times should be the measure. I also think previous national champs shouldn't get an exemption, but like everyone else, I am entitled to my 'wrong' or unpopular opinion. Got 3 kids, 2 of them under 3 yrs old. I plan to race at the 'Big Go' in 5-10 years, in Super Stock. SS/FA or SS/GA. We'll see if I can make the field or look stupid trying...

Either way, I don't get a lot work done this week every year, checking run sheets, forums, youtube live feed watching the sportsman, facebook, etc. Good luck Bob if you are racing there, and to anyone else. Most important to me, hoping no one gets hurt racing, pits, etc...

Andy,

We have only been INDY twice 1985 and 2004 and think about going back every year.

We would like to race INDY every year along with BG and Earlville.

It's only about a 6,500 mile tow.

We will see what the future holds.

Breaking News:

Just an update on Factory Stock qualifying at the 2019 US Nationals at INDY in Stock Eliminator

31 of the 32 Factory Stock cars entered Qualified to race at the 2019 US Nationals in Stock Eliminator.

That is quite an accomplishment getting 97% of the Factory Stock cars entered to qualify and to race in Stock Eliminator at the 2019 US Nationals.

NHRA you should hang your head in shame, that is if you have any..

Pending tech, of course.
